Description: 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATORY COMPLIANCE - Functions as the Plant Environmental and Pollution Control Officer.
    1. Oversees the operation and maintenance of the Company’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
    2. Reports within reasonable time to any government entity the breakdown of any pollution control facility and the estimated and actual date of completion/repair and operation.
    3. Maintains liaison with any Government entity to ensure company’s compliance and be abreast with government laws & regulations. (DENR, etc.) with the requirements of the company and government
    4. Promptly submit validated/certified as correct by the Plant Manager/General Manager periodic reports as stipulated in Section 7 of DAO 1992-26.
    5. Coordinates and assists inspections and audits to be conducted inside the plant by the government.
    6. Ensures that all mandatory permits, documents, and requirements in relation to the environment are renewed and submitted to authorities should the need arises.
    7. Develops, implements, and conducts Environmental Programs such as: Waste Segregation, Waste minimization (3R’s), Handling of Hazardous Wastewater Minimization and Pollution Prevention.
    8. Attends any DENR required seminar, trainings, meetings, and forums that will lead to company’s improvement.
    9. Oversees the preparation and implementation of records and SOPs related to equipment operation and preventive maintenances schedules as well as project reports.
    10. Coordinates and formulates with the immediate superior equipment preventive maintenance scheduling and recommends machine improvements as well as system improvements.
    11. Assists in implementation, certification, and maintenance of ISO 14001 – EMS of the company.
    12. Maintains and improves the company’s grounds and surrounding appearance.
    13. Conducts Safety and Environment orientation to all regular employees and third parties.
  2. SAFETY REGULATORY COMPLIANCE - Functions as the Plant Safety Officer
    1. Conducts Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control Measures (HIRAC).
    2. Develops, implements, and conducts Safety Programs such as Unsafe acts / Unsafe Conditions. 5S, forklift Rules 7 Regulations, Emergency Response Drill, Fire brigade team and First Aid team.
    3. Maintains liaisons with any Government entity to ensure company's compliance and be abreast with the requirements of the company and government DOLE laws and regulations.
    4. Assist DOLE, SMC technical group, Safety, and other authorized personnel to conduct safety and health inspections, accident investigations or any other related program and provides necessary documents and data as may be required.
    5. Leads Health and Safety Committee. As such shall, prepare minutes of the meeting; report status of recommendations; notifies member of the meetings; submits to management a report of the activities of the committee including recommendations made.
    6. Provides advice on matters pertaining to health and safety for the guidance of the management and workers.
    7. Conducts investigations of the accidents and submits separate reports and analysis of the accident to management to prevent occurrence of the same.
    8. Maintains or helps in the maintenance of an efficient accident record system and coordinates actions taken by supervisors to eliminate accident causes.
    9. Overseas and ensures all Safety Programs are implemented and continuously practiced in coordination with the company representative.
    10. Prepares CAPEX for safety improvement projects or for compliance.
    11. Leads the emergency preparedness and evacuation and implements.
    12. In charge of the renewal of all permits related to safety.
    13. Oversees the implementation of safety protocols related to covid or any pandemic as mandated by DOH.
    14. Attends and leads as company representative in any local government initiatives or programs related to safety.
  3. QUALITY AND REGULATORY STANDARDS - Compliance with Plant-wide quality, regulatory and statutory standards
    1. Complies with and performs procedures and instructions prescribed by the company’s/plants Quality and Environment Management standards and government regulations.
    2. Ensures implementation of proper waste segregation and disposal procedures, conservation of resources and pollution prevention programs.
    3. Observes Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures, HACCP and Food Safety procedures and workplace safety regulations and emergency preparedness programs (e.g. chemical spill response, ammonia leak response, fire safety, etc.)

Working Conditions:

  1. Can work in a field environment.
  2. Can work in elevated temperature environment, air-conditioned environment, chilled environment, freezing environment.
  3. Can work on weekdays, weekends, and holidays for long hours without supervision.
  4. Can work under pressure and on a demanding environment.

Position Requirements:

  1. Education/Licensure/Certification:
    1. Education: Any related engineering course; (preferably, passed government board examination)
    2. Certified Safety Practitioner by the DOLE
    3. Minimum Requirement: Safety Officer 3
  2. Work Experience/Exposure:
    1. At least two years of work experience relating to safety and environment tasks; (Safety Practitioner / Pollution Control Officer); liaising with government entities.
    2. Preferred plant experience is of food manufacturing setting in medium to large sized company.

  4. Technical:
    1. Has comprehensive knowledge about government/DOLE safety and environment laws and regulations/EMS.
    2. Has basic knowledge in mechanical/electrical and electronics fields.
    3. Thorough knowledge in productivity software (word, excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and above average presentation skills.
